Head Horse Trainer and Instructor

Coriander Farm seeks a full-time, experienced show rider/trainer to head our hunter/jumper show stable. We seek someone who loves teaching students of all ages and abilities and can prepare them for continued success at home and in competition. We are a junior and amateur-focused barn with horses and riders at many levels. While there are showing opportunities to prepare horses, we do not tend to have “open’ horses primarily for the trainer to show.

The primary responsibilities for this position are:
Manage the training program for clients and their horses.
Work with staff to manage the boarding duties: horse care and related
Develop a show calendar, organize show-related logistics, and go to shows with the horses and clients.
Assist with buying horses for clients and selling their horses as needed.
Oversight of the facility and responsibility for setting courses and exercises on a regular basis.
Desired Skills, Qualities and Experience:
Experienced hunter/jumper show trainer/rider
People person with good communication skills
Customer service and treating everyone with respect is paramount
Experience shipping horses
Ship horses to and from shows and help with the horse show set up, unpacking, and packing the trailer.
Reliable and consistent work ethic
Collaborative leader and team player
Experienced in stable management and general horsemanship
Ability to accurately provide an accounting of billable services
Prefer non-smoker
Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary of $52K plus additional income for shows (avg $7500-$12,000/yr) and horse sale commissions (avg $7,500-$20,000/yr)

For over 30 years, Coriander Farm [https://corianderjax.com/about-us/] has been the place in Jacksonville for equestrian enthusiasts of all ages to get their start or continue their passion in the hunter/jumper sport.
Our goal has always been to provide an environment where students can learn to be skilled riders and knowledgeable horsemen while being safe and having fun. We are dedicated to providing the best and most up-to-date curriculum for competing at top horse shows, and we have successfully fostered an environment of camaraderie and team spirit without drama.
We are a boutique stable with 25 stalls, 7 paddocks for turnout, a school horse arena, and an extensive training arena. Other aspects of our operation:
Lesson program consisting of 6 school horses. We give an average of 120 lessons per month.
We attend 14-22 shows annually.
We are located within Jacksonville’s city limits.
Our full-time staff consists of our two grooms, a school horse instructor, and a trainer who work cohesively to ensure the safety and care of horses and riders.
As the owner, I oversee the general business, interact with staff as needed, and provide a general direction for the farm. I seek an engaged, collegial relationship with the farm’s trainer.
