Job Title: Technical Project Manager – Software Implementation

Reports to: Chief Client Experience Officer

Summary:

Our Technical Project Manager role is an exciting opportunity to manage all aspects of projects such as software implementations, upgrades, data migrations and conversions, custom reporting solutions, desktop software integrations, enterprise stack integrations, and much more, working closely with a wide range of law firm clients.  Responsibilities will include leading client communications and meetings, eliciting business requirements to architect solutions, drafting Statements of Work (SOWs), scoping, managing project documentation and timelines, and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to set and meet expectations within agreed time-frames and with the highest quality.

 

Essential Job Functions and Performance Criteria:

This role is particularly well-suited for someone who is a highly technical, hands-on person who also has solid project management and client-interfacing experience.  You will be responsible for taking clients through the entire lifecycle and journey in order to ensure their success and satisfaction.  In this position, the ideal Technical Project Manager:

  • Handles oversight and coordination of project timelines, tasks, milestones and deliverables.
  • Leads all aspects of software implementations, including deploying enterprise-grade software to firms’ infrastructures, troubleshooting across both product and environmental factors, configuring various software modules according to client needs, training client staff, etc.
  • Fosters a collaborative, team-oriented approach and spirit within the group and among the other members of the ALN organization.
  • Interfaces with various internal teams to meet client and organizational goals.
  • Leads teams to deliver contract services in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Responsible for training our clients as needed on our various product.
  • Creates and implements project definitions, schedules, budgets, and objectives for medium to large size projects of moderate complexity.  Tailors project management overhead accordingly for smaller or less complex assignments.
  • Prepares statements of work for project engagements and monitors performance to ensure that project commitments meet contractual specifications.
  • Determines need for and impact of changes in project scope and makes recommendation based on determinations.
  • Gains concurrence, approval, and consensus from customer stakeholders regarding the various project aspects and adjusts accordingly.
  • Identifies appropriate resources and plans accordingly for projects.  Organizes project team members to ensure communication and understanding of deadlines, assignments and objectives.  Acts as the point of contact with customer project management representatives.
  • Leads data conversions and migrations from other products and solutions.
  • Manages costs, schedules, and quality by overseeing project deliverables.  Ensures schedules and budgets are met.  Identifies needs for adjustment/change and revises within established guidelines/policies as appropriate.
  • Performs ongoing review of project status; identifies project risks.  Develops recommends and implements risk mitigation solutions as approved and as appropriate.
  • Interfaces with team members and stakeholders to anticipate and manage changes to projects such as but not limited to, technical requirements, business requirements and schedule.  Determines when additional resources are need and implements same.
  • Manages customer, company management and project team expectations for agreed upon project performance by obtaining and providing project metrics. 
  • Oversees assigned personnel to projects.  Assigns work and provides direction with regard to timeliness and completion of project objectives.  Addresses performance issues within prescribed guidelines.  Provides performance input upon completion of project.
  • Works closely with, and reports weekly to management on accomplishments, activities, and progress against goals and objectives.
  • Develops effective tracking and reporting to provide early detection of problems and highlight opportunities.
  • Engages subordinates in the full extent of client relations and professional services activities providing professional growth opportunities and deepening and broadening their experience and capabilities.
  • Engages management appropriately and in a timely manner in problem determination, remediation, and resolution.
  • Maintains or exceeds industry-standard utilization, realization and billable rates.
  • Identifies revenue opportunities for professional services.

Management Reporting and Staff Development / Expectations:

  • The ISPM is tasked with developing and implementing effective practices, procedures, and communications with senior management, colleagues, and subordinates to satisfy the following requirements:
  • Works closely with, and reports weekly to management on accomplishments, activities, and progress against goals and objectives.
  • Develops effective tracking and reporting to provide early detection of problems and highlight opportunities.
  • Engages subordinates in the full extent of client relations and professional services activities providing professional growth opportunities and deepening and broadening their experience and capabilities.
  • Engages management appropriately and in a timely manner in problem determination, remediation, and resolution.
  • Maintain proper utilization, realization and billable rates
  • Identify revenue opportunities for professional services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) years minimum proven experience as a Project Manager involving software implementations and deployment (including data conversions or migrations)
  • Excellent general technical skills for troubleshooting software deployment issues, networking issues, database issues, web issues, and other potential infrastructure and desktop computer factors which can affect user experience
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
  • Excellent Knowledge of change management principles
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of program/project management software (Basecamp, MS Project etc.) is a strong advantage
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to think “outside the box” to identify problems and brainstorm solutions with the team
  • Ability to interact and communicate with various departments – need to be able to adapt to audience (C-level, IT, users, etc).
  • PMP or similar certification strongly preferred
  • Experience working with law firms or document management systems a plus
  • Strong presentation skills, both verbal and written including proficiency with presentation tools such as PowerPoint or similar software
  • Strong knowledge of SQL database schema and functions
  • Ability to install SQL server and a basic understanding of IIS
  • Expert in Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 software suites, Windows Operating System Environments (XP, Vista, 7) and with other commonly-used software packages for enterprise organizations
  • Travel – must be willing to travel up to 20-30% of the time throughout the US conducting on site, in-person training/problem-solving/relationship building efforts.
  • Able to multi-task well without losing attention to detail
  • Self-driven; able to lead a project from scoping to delivery
  • Billable Project Management experience
