THE POSITION’S PURPOSE

The Database Engineer is responsible for performing a wide variety of database programming assignments of newly developed software applications, enhancements to existing applications, emergency bug fixes, and other revisions to ALN’s products. The Database Engineer is also responsible for certain aspects of client implementations, such as data imports and data conversions.  The Databaase Engineer is also responsible for development and maintenance of ALN’s data stores used in our Docket Direct applications.  Also, the position requires collaborating with team members on technology, process and solutions to support over development goals and product roadmap

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR OBJECTIVES / DELIVERABLES:

  • Create databases from the ground up.​  Determine business requirements, create logical models, build physical models and plan system architecture.​
  • Design and implement complex data models.
  • Build SSIS and SSRS packages.
  • Work with customers in data migration projects to build migration scripts and integrate with customer’s existing databases and/or data feeds
  • Work with software engineers and database engineers to ensure the overall application design is optimal.​
  • Review database design and code written by other database and software engineers.
  • Design, implement and operate database systems for performance and reliability.​
  • Design and implement measurement systems to assess service delivery and key performance indicators of critical applications.​
  • Administer production and development databases, ensuring maximum availability.​
  • Build database tools and scripts that enable automation of tasks.​
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans
  • Conduct capacity planning for the databases for future growth.
  • Ensure  that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
  • Prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science
  • 7+​years’ experience in Microsoft SQL Server database technologies.​
  • Experience creating conceptual, logical and physical data models.​
  • Ability to code in T-SQL
  • Familiar with data modeling tools such as PowerDesigner, ERwin, ER/​Studio, or Toad.​
  • Hands on experience developing stored procedures, SSIS packages, SSRS, functions, and triggers.​
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and be self-directed.​
  • Ability to estimate development tasks accurately and meet agreed upon deadlines.​
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.​
  • Understanding of code promotion, version control, and QA procedures
