Alpine’s software is unique with its intuitive flow-based visual programming environment for data science combined with the tools to manage and collaborate across the data lifecycle.

The Role

As a Technical Support Engineer, you will help our customers solve real-world problems by leveraging our analytics platform and the methods of data science. Our support requests are full-stack:  they range from checking Linux memory settings to tuning Hadoop parameters to assisting customers in the effective use of our statistical and machine learning tools. You will work in an open, collaborative environment and should enjoy problem-solving and learning about the latest technologies.

As a support engineer, you'll be encouraged grow and learn valuable skills for data science, data engineering, and data operations.  You'll be immersed in the tools and technologies of big data:  Spark, HDFS, MLLib, Python, Amazon AWS, Linux, R, SQL, etc.

You should have experience in Linux and Hadoop, and a drive to learn more!

 

Opportunities:

  • Work with customers, mostly remote but sometimes on-site, to help them be successful with data science projects using Alpine’s technology

  • Troubleshoot problems at all levels of the technology stack, including web browsers, Java and Scala applications, Linux servers, Hadoop clusters, and database servers

  • Spin up Hadoop environments in the cloud in order to reproduce customer issues

  • Learn data science and machine learning concepts by supporting Alpine and peripheral technologies

  • Collaborate with data scientists and software engineers to help improve Alpine’s services and products

We are looking for people with:

  • Two+ years of experience in technical support

  • Strong knowledge of Linux

  • Understanding or experience of Hadoop and SQL

  • Familiarity with a scripting language like Bash or Python

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a dynamic team

  • Ideally some familiarity with Hive, Pig, Spark, or Java
