About the role:

Allogene Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Senior IP Paralegal to support the legal department on intellectual property matters. This is a hybrid role, and you will be expected to be in the office 3 days per week. The focus will be on patent matters, but knowledge in trademarks and contracts a plus. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of IP and will be interested in working in a fast-paced, dynamic and highly collaborative start-up environment with a willingness to take on new challenges.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide legal assistance on intellectual property matters
  • Coordinate paper and eFiling of patent applications and patent prosecution documents
  • Keep abreast of rule changes in patent and trademark prosecution practices in US and world-wide
  • Assist in patent litigation and other adversarial IP matters
  • Assist IP attorneys with the drafting and editing of various contract documents
  • Maintain contract database
  • Maintain tracking/docketing system for patents and trademarks
  • Coordinate invention disclosures from Research & Development
  • Track and monitor IP legal fees
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements & Experience:

  • IP Paralegal experience preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company (development-stage and public company experience a plus)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Paralegal certification required, California notary certification is a plus
  • Knowledge and understanding of global patent regulations, guidelines, and procedures, including an understanding of the various types of documents, forms and procedures associated with patent prosecution and maintenance
  • Experience assisting with prosecuting and maintaining patents, including:
    • Managing cases: Monitoring cases, ensuring deadlines are met, and reviewing and maintaining dockets
    • Preparing applications: Helping with patent application preparation and patent filing
    • Researching: Keeping abreast of US and foreign patent prosecution procedures and requirements
    • Communicating: Communicating with inventors, colleagues, and other associates, both verbally and in writing
    • Supporting attorneys: Assisting attorneys with administrative tasks and providing status reports
    • Other tasks: Assisting with intellectual property due diligence projects, preparing legal documents, and arranging for document legalization
  • Ability to regularly communicate highly confidential information to senior level staff and maturity to maintain confidential information
  • Proficient in MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and related software; experience with Foundation IP is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines
  • Strong interpersonal skills including relationship building, conflict resolution, and verbal and written communication are essential in this collaborative work environment
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced, start-up environment, while dealing with ambiguity
  • Ability to anticipate issues and provide practical solutions

Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, business needs, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
