About the role:

Allogene Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Associate Director, Human Resource Business Partner to join the HR team supporting Research and Development. The position will report to the Director of the HRBP function and will be located at the company’s headquarters in South San Francisco, CA, but may also require periodic travel to the company’s manufacturing facility in Newark, CA. This role may be remote up to 2 days per week. You will be a key member of the HR Leadership as well as the Research and Development Leadership team (which includes Research, Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Biometrics, Translational Science, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, and Program Management). You will be working across a broad variety of areas, including working with leaders to mentor, retain and grow their staff, assist with furthering the training and development program, handling employee relations matters, helping to cultivate the company’s One Allogene culture and other projects as needed. The ideal candidate is an individual who is interested in working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly collaborative biotech environment with a willingness and ability to successfully take on new challenges.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the Research and Development function to provide HR support
  • Be a key member of a small HR team to provide leadership across the organization as needed
  • Further the training and development programs for the organization
  • Partner with managers and leaders to assess the performance of their teams to assist in career planning, retention and growth
  • Partner with management to mitigate and/or resolve employee relations issues
  • Consult management and employees especially during the performance review process
  • Communicate company policies and provide recommendations on how to improve internal processes
  • Recruit, interview candidates and assist the talent acquisition team as needed
  • Assist with planning company events and cross-functional activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and 8+ years of experience in similar role in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry is required
  • Experience working in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry highly preferred - specifically within entrepreneurial, fast-paced growth organizations
  • An experienced professional with a demonstrated full understanding of HR business partnership
  • Willingness to think outside of the box and adapt best practices to our small, but growing environment
  • Elegant approach to employee relations issues, including the ability to provide difficult feedback to employee, managers and leaders at all levels of the organization
  • Familiarity with Federal and California state laws, OSHA, and FDA compliance
  • Exceptional attention-to-detail with the ability to meet aggressive timelines
  • Ability to adapt in a constantly evolving environment
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability in areas of responsibility
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication are essential in this collaborative work environment
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
