UX Designer

Project Management | Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom | Full Time

Job Description

About us

We’re all about eliminating wasted effort.  We don’t believe people’s valuable time should be spent on tasks that can be done more efficiently and effectively by software.  So we created Braid, our intelligent planning platform.

Our customers are large Professional Services organisations and teams.  They use Braid to plan, schedule, and run their projects in a way that achieves the highest levels of customer satisfaction, profitability, and employee happiness.

Why we’re hiring

Braid has undergone rapid improvements recently thanks to the super-human efforts of our Product Development team. Braid helps our customers handle complex concepts and problems, but as a result Braid itself has become complex.  Perhaps too complex. We need to expose the full power of Braid so that advanced users can get their work down efficiently, yet keep it simple and discoverable for occasional and first-time users. This is a thorny challenge, and it’s one that we would like you to solve.

As a UX Engineer, your job will be very simple: ensure our users love Braid.  This is of utmost importance to our strategy, which relies on our users becoming strong advocates for the product so that we can grow organically without huge marketing spend.

What you will do

  • Understand user journeys through direct customer observations and user analytics.

  • Identify and analyse user personas and their needs.

  • Manage the backlog of UX enhancements.

  • Design (and potentially code) enhancements.

  • Mentor front end developers to implement your designs.

  • Feedback to other members of the team to encourage a culture of user-centric design.

You are

  • Uncompromising in your defence of UX.

  • Able to simplify without dumbing down.

  • Great at asking awkward questions, kindly.

  • Smart enough to “get” the complexity underpinning our customers’ businesses.

  • Always learning new things, and keen to share your ideas of how we can be better.

  • Comfortable challenging and raising issues at any level.

Bonus points if you have

  • Comfortable with front-end coding to implement your designs.

  • Designed software that solves a complex problem.

  • Worked in (or with) the Professional Services industry.

We are a small but growing company. We are a minnow selling to whales, and that sometimes brings high-pressure situations. But we love our fun, flat and friendly workplace, where we are welcoming to all.
