Centre Manager - The Veranda

Job Description

Overview

The Centre Manager for The Veranda is in place to support in reducing poverty, loneliness and social isolation. The main responsibilities are development of clubs and activities, running a community café and engaging with charities who support our aims to become involved in use of the building whilst seizing opportunities for signposting to the wider team or externally with the goal of those in later years living life better.

What the Role Covers

Clubs and Activities

  • Identify key clubs and activities that meet the needs of those in later years
  • To develop internal and external clubs to maintain a full programme 9am-4pm Mon-Fri
  • To recruit, train and engage volunteer leaders to run sessions growing regular membership
  • To promote use of the Café facilities for attendees of the sessions
  • To monitor and manage income and costs to ensure we maximise income
  • To monitor and manage feedback and quality to maximise attendee satisfaction
  • To keep good records of attendees and outcomes for grant feedback and analysis

Community Café

  • To provide a Community Café for those in later years and their families 9am-4pm Mon-Fri
  • To recruit, train & engage volunteer team leaders & volunteers to serve and support clients
  • To maintain training records in line with food hygiene, health & safety and general operation
  • To monitor and record income and expenditure each day through cashing up
  • To implement good cash handling procedures with volunteers and team to ensure no losses
  • Maintenance of good stock and order for the Community Café for an in-stock position
  • To develop the team to identify issues and signpost internally and externally for support

Charities Engagement

  • To identify key partners for the charity and agree a shortlist with the CEO
  • To engage with partners on joint ventures to promote improved living in later years
  • To balance off clubs with charity bookings to maximise use of the centre
  • To keep good records of attendees and outcomes for grant feedback and analysis
  • To develop the centre as the go-to place for information for those in later years
  • To monitor / coach the reception / information team on ways to signpost effectively
  • To manage the reception / information team to deliver an effective service to clients

Systems / Record Keeping

  • To maintain all records on Salesforce for Charities for compliance / reporting purposes
  • To record and maintain training records for volunteers inclusive of DBS
  • To record and maintain cash records and banking receipts
  • To complete audit as required for food hygiene, health and safety and training implementing remedial action
  • To implement and provide monitoring information against key grants
  • To agree budgets with the CEO and maintain the operation effectively to the budgets

People / Team

  • To inspire volunteers / the team to improve life for those in later years
  • To develop an experience within the Veranda for clients and volunteers alike
  • To be a trusted team member who is reliable and looked up to by colleagues
  • To innovate and develop the centre for the needs of those we serve
  • To be a positive ambassador for Age Concern with all stakeholders
  • To draw people in to Age Concern through the welcome and service experience
  • To cover the team as needed in periods of absence or holidays being supportive
  • To manage a small paid team and volunteers

Please note that this role is part-time for 34 hours a week 9am-4pm Mon-Fri and is a two-year fixed-term contract with a view to extending it based on success of the role.

  • Advice – Financial, Mobility, Housing and Health (£1.1m - £1.4m per year in benefits won)
  • Information and Support – 6,500 phone calls a year providing signposting and direct support
    • Health and Disability, Legal, Cnsumer Matters, Care, other signposting
    • Handypersn services
  • Befriending (50+ volunteers delivering a befriending service in the home)
  • Friendship groups – our own and we link together a network
  • Free ½ hour legal surgeries with top local solicitors
  • IT Training / Technology support
  • Research in conjunction with Essex University on a new project
