What we are looking for in a Quality Control Associate

The Quality Control Associate will support the inspection of materials used to manufacture silica aerogels as well as the finished aerogel products themselves. Inspection activities will include measuring optical quality and fundamental material properties, as well as data recording and entry.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Run standard QA/QC, testing and validation on incoming, in-process and finished materials such as:
    • Optical testing + imaging
    • Thermal conductivity
    • Thickness, weight, density
    • Mechanical testing
  • Accurately collect, organize, and document results using AeroShield standard documentation platforms and practices
  • Collaborate with other members of the technical team to support continuous improvement initiatives, including identification of recurring defects and root cause analysis
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of testing instrumentation, including preventative maintenance and calibration verification.
  • Train new employees on inspection, testing, and documentation practices

This role requires candidates to be on-site 5 days a week at our facility in Waltham, MA.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in a tech-related field
  • Some hands-on experience in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment repeatably performing tests or experiments.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, focusing on accuracy and quality
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to listen, distill information, consult, and suggest new approaches
  • Able to learn quickly by leveraging all possible resources
  • Highly organized
  • Works well in teams
  • Passionate about AeroShield values

Bonus skills:

  • Experience performing material inspections, identifying nonconformances, and escalating appropriately
  • Experience with aerogel, glass, laminate, or IGU-type materials
  • Able to perform wet-lab chemical experiments, including working in fume hoods
